Could Covid 19 Increase Marijuana Growing?

As we begin the Spring of 2020, the Covid 19 virus that has encircled the world is affecting many U.S. and worldwide citizens, causing large changes in the way we live, socialize and shop for goods and services.

During the last month many States have implemented stay-at-home, ‘lock-down’ procedures, which has led to a slowing down of the number of infections and deaths across Europe. Bill Caruso, attorney and founder of New Jersey United for Marijuana Reform reported recently that many people, both industry professionals and patients, support the legalization of growing Marijuana at home for personal use.

Many current industry leaders and Marijuana advocates agree that medical Marijuana patients shouldn’t have to rely on a third-party to supply natural plant medicine. This may be placing at-risk patients in more danger, with them leaving the house to collect their prescription, or through contact when accepting deliveries.

States such as New Jersey, initially advocated the right for people to grow a limited number of Marijuana plants under their Marijuana legalization draft, but this was later omitted to increase the chances of the Bill becoming passed.

There are several States that currently allow the personal growing of Marijuana for medical patients, these include Washington, Oklahoma, Arizona, New Mexico and Missouri. Given the impact of Covid 19 Marijuana growing for personal use may soon also include its use for recreational purposes, bringing these States in-line with the current laws governing Maine, Alaska, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Colorado.

Other States including California, Michigan, Vermont, Oregon and Nevada allow medical patients to grow more Marijuana plants than recreational users, with no plans to change these regulations or amounts at the current time.

Whether the Marijuana dispensaries shut due to the Covid 19 virus, or remain open during this troubling time, the last thing either a medical or recreational Marijuana user wants during self-isolation is to run out of weed.
